I think this just isn’t my style of game, others may like it but personally the most enjoyable thing was the art. The silly clouds very funny to see and the Nitori on the upgrade screen makes her look very cool.
The issues I have with this game are:
I can’t seem to earn any of the time, speed or height based achievements. I unlocked all four distance achievements. But no matter what I do I cannot get ticks on any of the markers
Progression is so quick, unless you really enjoy just flying around you have no reason to play after the 3/4th day as you have everything unlocked.
On my first play through of the game it went like this.
Day 1: Figure out controls, try and fly as far as I can. Purchase level 5 of the Initial Speed and Air Resistance buffs. Purchase level 3 and level 2 respectively of the Glider and Booster.
Day 2: Try to go as far to the right as possible and realise it isn’t infinite. Have enough money to purchase the last tier of Booster and level 6 of Speed and Resistance.
Day 3: The music stops playing, I try surviving as long as possible without hitting the edge of the game, purchase the Airplane.
As this style of game isn’t really for me I don’t know if I’m the best to comment on it but my requests would be.
Alter the pricing scheme. It suddenly jumping from 400-2400-7400 makes so sense when the first upgrades were 0-20-100-400. I’d rather have the jumps not be as sudden, something like 100-250-700-1500-2500-7000-10000. And for the Booster and Glider, something like 1000-3000-15000.
More things to do in the actual game, either something to dodge or collect or anything. Or if not in the flying stage, the option to collect different kinds of sukus with the money your earn. Without additional things to do the only goal of the game becomes to earn as much money as possible.
Thanks for the detailed comment! The game is actually based on "Learn to Fly," an old Flash game.
As for why the prices and achievements are wacky, I only managed to get all the logic complete 30 minutes before the submission deadline, and I didn't use the extra day given to everyone to add anything since it was technically complete in time, just couldn't be uploaded.
As someone who enjoys flight simulators such as Il-2 sturmovik and the ace combat series, I found this game to be a breath of fresh air in the genre that so often focuses on realism while forgetting the simple joy and freedom of soaring through the skies. The upgrade system appears to be inspired by the roguelike genre of games, such as the binding of isaac, slay the spire etc. and does a great job of incentivizing players to push further. The soundtrack is mysterious and dreamy, made me think of classic Miyazaki films such as spirited away and classic nintendo titles such as zelda and luigi's mansion. I will admit, I'm not the biggest fan of TouHou games, but from a quick google search, the art seems to be authentic to the artstyle of the series, the eastern influence makes me think the artist must've been chinese and played stalker at some point. The tongue-in-cheek reference to the yakuza series is also greatly appreciated. Overall, I'd give it 8.5/10,my only gripe being that there doesn't seem to be any support for flight sticks yet, hopefully the devs will consider it for a future update.
